Does the Verizon supplied McAfee securuty package for the internet preclude one having to purchase a Norton type package?

McAfee and Norton are competing products. If you have one, you should not have the other. Running competing antivirus products at the same time is a recipe for disaster.

That said, both McAfee and Norton are horrible products and should be avoided. If you are running Windows 7, Microsoft Security Essentials is a much better antivirus product, and it's free.

UNNDUNN sounds like you had a bad experience or two. I've had Norton through Comcast for years without a problem and now need to find out if McAfee is as good. What makes MS better?

Thanks.

Definitely avoid VISS like the plague.  Despite having it, my computer slowed down to such a point where I couldn't get on the Internet anymore because of viruses undetected by VISS.  I paid a professional privately to find this out.  I got on the phone with Verizon and canceled it so fast because I couldn't believe what a waste of money that was.

Free virus programs are way better.  I use avast.com in conjunction with malwarebytes.com and they are both much more reliable for picking up viruses, infected files, and anything malicious and they're very simple to update.

I'm not sure about Norton.  My family swears by Norton which they upgrade every year on their own and which is not part of a deal with their ISP but I defnitely swear by the free programs.
