Strange Email

I recieved this email today, my first instinct was to call verizon and let them know what I had recieved.  But as always I was on hold for over 30 minutes and never talked to a single person. Which is par for the course with Verizon.  I just wanted to let everyone know that someone is screwing around.

BE CAREFUL!!  There was a news story today about a phishing scam such as this that has already bilked thousands of unsuspecting people out of their account information and those individuals have fallen victim to identity theft.  According to the news release, multiple arrests are in the process and it's being labeled as one of the biggest phishing scams in history.

Before replying to this email, check the full headers on the email message to verify it came from Verizon and not a third party site being used for a phishing scam.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Concerning your other comment, I have NEVER been on hold with VZ for 30 minutes.

Another red flag just from looking at the email is that address it's from <user-accountlogin@att.net>

I don't think that Verizon would be using an At&t account to talk to their own customers.

A few minor (and sometimes not so minor!) misspellings, and/or grammar errors always clue me in.  Plus, how many times have we been told by Verizon, and banks, and countless others, that you will NEVER be asked for your password via email!!!  Never click on email links, ALWAYS go to the source site by typing it in your browser yourself, and checking there for "maintenance updates" or whatever the suspect email claims to be doing.

Just a bit of common sense.....

This is an even better way to tell that it is fake.  Verizon will NEVER ask you for your username and password, tech support, billing, even the website doesn't show what you are typing in.  If anyone ever asks you for a password do not give it to them, unless you lock your billing account with a pin.

I also thought those emails were supposed to go to postmaster@verizon.net bobby?

You must have a PREMIUM account with a magic phone number!  Or else, you are being tricky and have not really called customer service at all... 😉
