I see Verizon's commercials all the time bad mouthing other companies saying their service is slow and delayed and the customer service is bad. Well I've never had worse service than with Verizon FIOS, our TV was always delayed when using EVERY function of the TV, changing channels, surfing the guide or on demand, always delayed, always slow. THeir customer service employees are trained to know nothing. They're as clueless as you. The also have an insane amount of hidden fees and charge you a ridiculous amount of money for the crappiest boxes they have (for cable). Its nuts! $8 A MONTH PER Standard box, you want an HD Box? $20 a month. A MONTH. You're RENTING those things. You would, very quickly, pay the value of the box in rent... it's not yours to keep, you did not buy it.... you KEEP paying...

Verizon are terrible. If you haven't signed up - don't. If you can look into something else - DO IT... Any other company is better than verizon.

I just left Brighthouse and will never go back. My last three months with them I tried to get a lousy reception problem fixed. The last straw was when a BH customer svc person said he wouldn't create a service request for me because there had been no similar complaints in my area. See ya....

Verizon sure aint perfect, but after being with TimeWarner, DTV, TimeWarner again, and BH, I'm stayin put for a while.

By the way, the HD ST-box is $10, HD DVR is $16, at least in my area. $20 is for a Home Media DVR/setup.

Comcast and Cox lie too.

For example, they said to an user that:

25/25 internet doesn't exist and Verizon is lying about their speeds.

YES!. I have 35/35 and we get 43/35. 25/25 does exist at 32-33/25. Things are getting better by the month, if not day. The increase to 43 was not announced so big things are coming, and I am sure cable can not touch it. Verizon has been very tight lipped about any changes, because I am sure cable companies will say what do we do now? Fiber has the capabilities that copper can only dream about. I have fiber in my house. Why do cable companies run fiber as to support various locations, and then converrt to copper the last miles? Do they do it because copper is better? Verizon does not lie, but they can not tell what is coming until they are ready. What they say they have, they do have. Customer service can improve within any organization, it depends on who you talk with.

As far as STB hardware, you rent it with any company. Does Verizon rent the expensive Optical Network Terminals? No it is part of the service. Verizon has made huge investments in the technologies and installed millions if not billions of feet of fiber. What has cable contributed in the last 10 years? New style F-Connectors?

Yes, I have 25/25 and it tests favorably close to that (25-30/20). Uploads and downloads of large files to and from my ftp site occur in the blick of an eye instead of the several seconds it took before I switched. However, and this might be my imagination, it seems like my web browsing is slower than before with the previous provider (with 10/3 service). I have read some blogs that claim the same thing about VZ, but they might be biased in some way. Anyone have an opinion on this issue?

Verizon may be best at the technology they have but until their customer service gets better I will never be a Verizon customer again. I have run into untrained customer service reps before, however Verizon has some of the most ignorant and unknowledgeable agents I have ever encountered. Not only did I never get help for any problem I had with THEIR service or equipment, but I had to tell 4 different agents the same story almost every time I called. Their bill was never the same month to month like they said and they managed to create a huge bill for me (that I am still fighting) with Direct TV. My blackberry contract with them is almost up and I will most definetly be chaning that too. Ad someone answer me this..how does my own phone company charge me for calling THEM?

Brighthouse may have their own problems but in the month I have been dealing with them I have ALL my questions and concerns addressed and answered.

Uh..BUH-BYE VERIZON.....you just lost one.

Good luck dude. I have a feeling you will need it. Been there, done that, and can identify with your plight.

As for BrightHouse, ask for a Samsung SMT-H3270 HDDVR if they have them in your area. They record up to 40 hours of HD. Don't believe the spec sheets that say 25 or 30 or 35. I did record 40 hours on the one I had. But don't believe them if they say it supports an external hard drive. They told me it did, but that turned out  to be untrue (not that I expected it to be true).
