I am going to discontinue my DSL service at my home as I am moving to a cable modem. The biggest drag about the whole move is losing my verizon.net email account. I've been told that there is no way to unhook the two. Posting this note is my last gasp effort in finding a way to keep my email account open via webmail. Does anyone here know if this is possible? I really don't want to lose my email address, I've had it for years.
When I left Earthlink DSL for Verizon DSL, I was able to keep my email address open for a small monthly fee...I was hoping Verizon had that same opportunity. I'm very bummed out to have to retrain EVERYONE in my address book to use my new email address once I've set it up with a different company. what a headache!!

Hello and welcome! Well sadly, I don't think that is going to be possible under the current policy. However, I'm with you! The policy should be changed and anyone wishing to retain their old e-mail address and is willing to pay a reasonable fee to keep it should be able to do so. I say this also from a corporate advertising point of view as well, since the more verizon e-mail addresses out there the more prominent the verizon name badging is out there.
I don't know if the powers that be will change this but I do strongly suspect they read these forum postings and hopefully the lightbulb will go on to have this as an extra service. I do have a question . . . are you a verizon wireless member as well and if so would you be remaining as such? If the answer is yes all around here then that alone should be sufficient justification for a verizon member to be able to retain a verizon e-mail web address. I fully support you and hope that other members will as well. Come on verizon . . . how about it? 🙂
Yes, currently I am a Verizon Wireless customer, but the way things are going lately I doubt I'm going to want to do much more business with them. My contract on the cell phone runs out in a few months. I really want to move over to a company that tries a little harder to keep their customers happy. I used to have home phone, wireless, and internet with them...one by one they are all going by the wayside because they just don't work hard enough to keep me around. Everything is a runaround, nothing is clear, other companies are hustling for my business.
This email situation is a total pain...the more I think about it, the more bummed I get.
OK . . . I was trying to make the argument to the executives that keeping the e-mail going for a verizon wireless customer would make sense. However, if you've decided to pull the plug on everything verizon then I suppose my theory just got flushed away :(.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying...but if I do indeed lose the email address, there's no chance I'll keep the cell phone. And to be honest with you...when I was using all sorts of Verizon products I didn't reallly think they were treating me like some sort of special customer. I doubt they really even realized I was using so many of their products because I didnt' sign up for bundling.
that went through a similar issue when I switched from comcast to verizon. all I did was send out a mass e-mail indicating the e-mail change. I think they leave the account active for a week or a month after you pay your last bill, so perhaps you could set up an automated reply (or forward) indicating your new e-mail address.
I was actually glad about the switch though b/c I was starting to get spam and whatnot, so a change could be a good thing.
If you feel that this could happen again, simply utilize one of the free e-mail accounts there like yahoo, gmail, or MSN.
Finally, I understand that you feel unappreciated by Verizon, and trust me, you are not alone in this world, no matter which service you subscribe to.
I agree that the ability to keep your Verizon.Net Email for a reasonable fee would be a great idea. Even if they allowed you to set up an auto forward rule to your new account could work.
I faced this issue many years ago and after having 2 different ISP go under in a 3 month span I signed up for my own Domain and have had my email hosted by a 3rd party ever since. Most Hosting Provider's have reasonable www site and email packages for individual use. I just had to change providers and it was as simple as signing up for the new service and reconfiguring my Outlook Client. None of my contacts had to make any changes since my external address never changed.
I know this won't help your current dilemma, but it might help in the future...
