Video on demand

I was very unhappy to learn that f I wanted to watch season 1 Nashville on demand I would have to pay for each episode

Currently, I pay over 275 a month for my Verizon services and so I thought that TV network shows would be available free of charge. I was told by my daughter, that Direct TV offers these type of shows at no additional cost.

Actually there is always a cost for on demand shows.  Each service provider has to contract with the content provider for the shows.  And pay for them!  So the only difference is how that cost is transferred to the end user.  Some service providers include more "free" on demand, including the cost in the basic price and everyone pays, whether they watch those shows or not.  Some service providers have fewer "free" shows, and then only the viewers who want them pay.  Either way, somebody is going to be unhappy.
