The last time I checked this was the United States, and although not the official National Language, we speak English here. Is this a case of "Press 1" for English to cater to Spanish speakers, who will not learn English? Or is this a crappy assumption based upon my last name, which is often confused with the hispanic equivalent?

Not sure exactly who "we" refers to, but even though it may come as a surprise to some, there are quite a few different languages spoken "here." Look at it this way: Spanish is much easier than Mandarin, Russian, or Navaho.
