To the Community,

Hello, I am a bit confused about the new Verizon phone+internet bundle plan.  I think I am being fooled into a "deal" when it is not really a deal.

After seeing the new "double" phone+internet bundle plans advertised, I decided to check it out to see if I could save some money. Currently, I have Verizon Freedom Essentials @ $44.99 and the 1 mpbs download/ 384 kbps upload DSL plan @ $19.99 a month.

After entering my information under the "current Verizon customers" section, I was told that I could engage in a bundle consisting of  Verizon Freedom Essentials and the 1mbps/384kpbs DSL plan for $59.99 a month with total savings of $14.99 a month.  I clicked "continue" to see more details.

Then here is the ridiculous part.  While it quoted the Verizon Freedom Essentials at $44.49 a month, it quoted the 1mbps/384kpbs DSL plan at $29.99 a month!  This didn't make any sense as I am currently paying $19.99 a month for the same DSL plan!

I checked the price listings on the Verizon High Speed Internet website and it quotes the 1mpbs/384kbps DSL plan at $19.99 as well!

So the actual savings is not $14.99, but rather $4.99!

Did I miss something or did Verizon simply raise the price it quoted the DSL plan just to create an imaginary $10.00 of supposed savings?  This is ludicrous!

Could there have been a "Bundle Discount" that you did not see that would have brought the total price for both services down to what was advertised ?

My experiences with "bundeling" have been horendous!!  A nightmare.  Don't do it!  I called Verizon back in April to lower my monthly bill. They talked me into bundeling them and even talked me into bundeling DirecTV with my other services.  It's been 3 months plagued with billing problems.  It took one month to get things bundeled properly, instead of decreasing my bill (which was about $75/month originally) it tripled my bill (my last Verizon bill was $390.00).  I started getting charged for 2 phone lines which I've never had.  And they dont' tell you in advance that you have to pay for 2 and a half months of DirecTV up front.  I got really tired of making phone calls to Verizon and spending hours trying to get this resolved.  I finally canceled most of my services with them.  No one has ever apologized for their errors nor have I ever been offered any refund of money I have been overcharged.

I've been a Verizon customer for 10 years and no attempts were made to keep my business.  I guess paying your bills on time for ten years doesn't mean much to them.

Advice --- do not bundle services.  Everything gets screwed up!!

I think the above post is just flat wrong!

As a 29+ year customer of GTE/Verizon, I highly recommend bundling to everyone: saves money, simplifies the bill, works great. I have had FiOS for about 4 years now, triple play for 3+ years or so. Since bundling my services I have changed the phone service level, changed internet speeds, changed TV subscription package, changes were easy, bill is easy to read and exactly what I expect it to be every month, online payment easy and accurate.

Of course YMMV, but bundling has worked great for me.

BrianMcD,

I give you the following screencaps to illustrate what I mean.

First, the cost of Verizon Freedom Essentials at $44.99 a month is correct.  The only problem is in the cost of the 1mpbs/384kpbs DSL plan that is being quoted.

The time period being considered is one year.

The following is from the Verizon High Speed Online's website:

 http://i42.tinypic.com/desgi9.jpg

Note the period of concern is 1 year, and that the price quoted for the DSL plan is $19.99.  Furthermore, note that is price is for those who have Verizon home phone service.

Now, consider the following from the Bundles website:

http://i41.tinypic.com/1zeh07p.jpg

Again, the period of concern is 1 year, but the price quoted for the same DSL plan is $29.99!

Currently, with no bundle, I pay $44.99 for Verizon Freedom Essentials and $19.99 for my DSL plan which is $64.98 a month.

The bundle is advertised as $59.99.   So if I get the bundle, I would save $64.98 - $59.99 = $4.99 a month.

Saving $14.99 a month as quoted on the Bundles website is ficticious since is uses $29.99 a month as the price for my current DSL plan!

Someone please explain!

The individual prices for Broadband are quotes at a higher price, but your bundle price for BOTH Service is still $5 Less.

How many times to you see other vendors or stores raise there prices and then have a "Sale", this is no different.

As long as your total cost is lower you are saving money.

I agree that this type of numbers game that everyone plays is a joke, but I don't think that we are going to chnage it any time soon.
