my service will be suspended for non payment of $2,000 thank you verizon for not working out any payment plan. I will file a complaint. Once they do this can I call up and restart as a new customer or work something out that I can have my services back but start all over?

I already talked with finnincial department and they can care less about me they did not want to do anything. How are they refusing to do payments for someone on wellfere and only makes less the $100 a week.

How did you rack up $2000 worth of charges?

$2000? Wow! Just wow!  I have FiOS triple-play and Verizon cell phones, my monthly bill is less than $300, and I am a long term customer so I don't get any of the low price introductory deals. So lets see: lets say $300-$350/month is a reasonable bill for the service you have, that means that you are apparently somewhere around 6 months behind, give or take. You are on welfare (and unemployed?), I get that and am sorry you are, but in 6 months you can't figure out you can't afford to keep that service? Sounds to me like Verizon is doing the financially responsible thing for their shareholders, they are not a charity.

Sounds to me like you should cut back on your services. Welfare or not, it is your responsibility to live within your means.

If I go out to a five-star restaurant and eat a full meal, they expect me to pay for it. I don't complain when the bill shows up about how I'm on a fixed income and they should make an exception. If I can't afford to pay, I shouldn't have eaten the expensive food.

FiOS service isn't free.  You've got to pay.  You had to know they'd cut it at some point.  Although, I'm wondering how you logged in?

Surely, you jest!!!!     As a tax payer, I resent having to pay for your TV.  Get the very basic service!  Then, pay your bill or lose the service.   Verizon is not operating a charity.  Smiley Mad

Justin,

You and I have disagreed before and all I am doing is responding from another perspective.  I think all the responses to the original post here are harsh and I think you are looking at this from a purely logical point of view.  We all know that life is a lot more complicated than that and it's easy to talk until we have been in the situation ourselves.  How do you know the original poster isn't a single parent scraping by on very little money and is more focused on feeding his/her kids and making sure they are being provided for?  Nobody can live their whole lives around Fios and we all make mistakes and overlook things at certain times.  Nobody is perfect and we all have busy lives with many demands.  Maybe TV, phone, and Internet weren't at the forefront at the time and maybe someone in that situation is hoping things will get better soon.  I don't fault someone for trying to keep up with the bills and proposing a payment plan is by no means an unreasonable course of action to pay off someone's debt, especially if it means avoiding bankruptcy.

There are many people in this country scraping by on very little money being out of work due to no fault of their own and I am sure there are other people in these forums who have been there themselves.  I'm sure you can understand how hard and draining that can be for anyone to handle.  Life is good and comfortable when we have the money.  How can anybody make a living on 100 bucks per week?  Scraping by and being in debt like that can be an embarrassment for a lot of people who are really trying.

And I understand that there are those who are not responsible but a lot of people in this country are facing hard luck due to no fault of their own and oftentimes, debt is not that person's fault when that person doesn't have the means.

Another thing I want to mention is that other people here have suggested getting Fios's really basic service.  What basic service is that?  If you want something basic and simple like my package, that's still at least 125 bucks per month and that's not something a welfare recipient can afford.  This is expressly the reason why I feel that getting rid of the free antenna reception was a mistake.  If you want an indoor antenna for your TV, the reception stinks, unless you're able to get an outdoor antenna on your roof.  You might as well have no TV at that point.  So now that we have been forced to pay for Fios or cable if we want decent TV reception, what's the alternative?  Too bad and no TV at all?  What if you're down on your luck and you can't afford cable or Fios?

We all understand that corporate giants are not charities.  I get that.

I'm only asking that you try to see this from a human point of view with some compassion because realistically, this kind of situation can happen to anybody and when you're faced with the circumstances, it's a much different story.

And if the original poster made a mistake or overlooked this inablity to keep up with the payments, then so be it.  We all make mistakes.

Robert,

You are right, we have disagreed in the past and we will probably disagree again in the future. Smiley Very Happy

I stand by my view. If the amount was $200 or $300, maybe even $500 (that is, maybe one or two months worth), I could be a lot more sympathetic to the situation. But how does anybody rack up $2,000 in delinquent bills to one company on a probably less than $300 per month bill? I can't conceive of how any responsible person could do that. And after they do get in that situation, then they expect the company to work out some kind of payment plan that would probably last into the next century, if it got paid at all? Any company that does that is not being responsible to their shareholders (which could include you and me).

As I said in my original post, I am sorry that person is on welfare. Beyond that however, I believe we all should take responsibility for our own lives, and that means paying attention to the bills, making financial adjustments as and when needed, saving during the good times for when times aren't so good, etc.

Verizon offers a basic local channel lineup for about $13/month. Or maybe they could spend $20 or so and get an antenna and watch TV that way. But whatever, how in the world does a responsible person rack up a $2000 delinquent bill for presumably TV, internet, phone, and cell service (and maybe not even all 4 of them)? And do they really need TV (or internet, or home phone, or cell phone) at all if finances are that bad? No they do not!

To your last point: so assuming the poster did make a mistake or overlook their inability to keep up with the payments to the tune of $2000, you feel Verizon (or any other company) should just give them a free pass? No way in my view! You are right, we all make mistakes. And we should learn from them. And hopefully this person does learn. All of us need to take responsibility for ourselves and not depend on others to bail us out.

My $0.02 worth.
