Dropping landline for DSL

SO.. I currently have a landline and I am paying the bare minimum for phone service.  Its about 6.85 for the unlimited local, 7.87 for dial tone, and then another 7 or 8 for all the fantastic govn't fees totalling somwhere around 23 bucks and change when its all done.

I saw here I could get rid of the landline although it adds an extra 10 on dsl.  Is that 10 solo the only addition?  Or does it still have the landline govn't fees tacked on there with it?  If so that makes around 17-18.  Savings of only 5-6 bucks.  Big whoop.

AND, since I have dish, they tack on 5 bucks(I think direct tv does too) without a landline, cuz they get as shystery as phone companies with fees....  So that brings my savings to about 1 dollar.

Maybe I should go to a cable modem???

All the stupid fees for NOT having something is silly.
