Unrepairable problems

I have had the same problems for months. I sign in, check box for the two week option and get timed out at least twice, usually more times a day. Often when I try to delete an e-mail, the progress circle keeps turning necessitating closing Verizon and opening it up again. My computer locks up when on Verizon, the mouse becomes inoperable which means I have to manually shut down to reopen.

Right now I have requested technical help from the United States, up to this minute it's been 45 minutes waiting for a callback which I doubt will ever occur Incompetence personified.

Sounds to me you're having deeper hardware/software trouble than just Verizon's website perhaps bugging out. Your computer should never, ever have a hard lock-up (preventing the mouse from moving) from a web page.

I have run all Avast options and Microsoft defender. Neither one found anything. AVG?

Avast! is a better program over AVG for scanning. No need to run AVG in this case. I use Avast! myself as it's effective.

What browser and operating system are you running? I just loaded up Verizon's Webmail using some credentials I have access to (my account is a VZ Yahoo! account for reasons) and it's really nothing more than pure HTML + JavaScript with images and stylesheets. It shouldn't even be able to hang the system! Verizon's main website is 98% JavaScript, images and HTML as well. Some parts of it use Flash but that is something to watch out for with older systems, older SWF files but later builds of Flash (there is a common fix to many of these problems). My oldest systems (Think: Pentium I/AMD K6-grade) do take a while (2-5 seconds) to render the pages, but they do not hang or lock up as you describe. That's with an ancient and modern web browser in use.

Are these hangs happening on any website away from verizon.com or verizon.net?

Internet explorer. When deleting e-mail on Verizon it will occasionally lock up. Mouse inoperable, progress circle keeps spinning. On my MSN account my e-mail never faults. When playing MSN Spyder Solitair the mouse will tire and no longer pul down the card. I scanned MSN games, no results. Seems like the problem lies with Verizon. Windows 7 32 Professional.

I'm still failing to see how this is the fault of Verizon, especially now that you mention Spider Solitaire which has nothing to do with Verizon, that's made by Microsoft and built with Windows. Unless their In-Home Agent is breaking machines to new levels should you have it installed, this still has to be an issue with the machine, hardware or software. I run a network of 40+ devices here, 14 of which are computers and none of them encounter this issue. I've had service from Verizon for 7 years. The only difference between my machines and perhaps others is that I do not have a trace of Verizon software on them, and most of my desktops are machines I've built over the years. Laptops are cleaned out of "crapware" and set back to a stock copy of Windows or Linux.

When the mouse stops working, what happens when you press the Windows key on the keyboard? How about Alt+Tab? How about Alt + Windows Key? How about simply toggling Caps Lock or Num Lock? Does the machine still play content such as Music while it is not responding to input?

If you've got In-Home Agent installed or any other Verizon software (away from VISS, which may cause issues but it is McAfee Under the hood, that does not do this) and have removed it as of this post, I would strongly suggest trying different mice, trying another machine, and investigate any further issue with the machine (have your neighborhood computer geek come by and check the machine out). Try re-connecting all devices to the machine, take the keyboard and mouse off of USB Hubs/extenders if they are attached to external ones, and certainly make sure the ports are not dust covered. Just general computer maintenance and troubleshooting. Failing that, get another computer to borrow, attach it to your Verizon service and see if it acts up.

Found the problem. There was a virus that Avast had found and put in a cache. After searching for a virus neither Avast nor Defender could find it. It was still active even though it was in Avasts cache.  Wonderland was in its name.

Just to be sure I would update your antivirus and run a full scan in safe mode (F8 after power on) You could also download and install the free version of Malwarebytes   http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=d...  and run a safe mode scan.

That's an interesting scenario. Not too often do I hear of that happening! Glad to hear you've found the problem. 🙂
