I just ordered a 3M/768K plan and got it all activated. The internet works but it is sooo slow.  I have used verizon internet on the same speed at a friends house and he only lives a few blocks away but his internet actually performs at the right speed. On speedtest.net i get 1.05M/0.65M. I checked the transceiver stats on my modem and here is what i got:

DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec):

1216 / 768

Margin (dB):

7.7  / 10.0

Line Attenuation (dB):

59.4 / 31.5

Transmit Power (dBm):

17.8 / 11.9

There is a problem somewhere between where you plug the modem/router into the wall, and the CO.

At 59.4db loss on the downlink you are marginal for 3mbps, and the 7.7db margin isn't good either. However the fact that you have essentially rated speed on the uplink is unusual. You might try plugging the modem/router into the Network interface box and see if it does any better. If if doesn't, talk to Verizon, if it does, the problem is probably wiring inside the house.

Sometimes this can be fixed with a single filter near the service entrance that prevents DSL signal from being distributed except on the pair that goes to the modem/router. (the standard per line filters just keep the DSL signal out of the phone equipment upstream of it, they do not prevent the signal from being distributed inside the house. You may also be missing one or more filters on individual phones.

Anyway, the 'whole house' filter often solves this problem if the performance is OK at NIB.

Good luck

I am not sure, at this time.

I saw a web page on doing your own wiring.

I guess you have to work with your landlord and get the modem directly connected to the NID.

Even if it is for testing reasons, OR you might have to call Verizon.

If you call Verizon, I guess the three of you (you, the Verizon Tech, and the landlord) must work together.
