I have the same kind of problem we had DSL for years and Then had it off maybe a year if that and the next door neighbor knocked down a wire from the pole with his truck and when Verizon came to fix it they just rolled it up instead of reconnecting it so from Then on I was told DSL wasn't available at my address anymore until a couple months ago so I went ahead and added it they sent me the box and turned on the service and I get nothing from the box so I requested a repair and they set up the appointment and no one ever come out so I checked the repair status again and Then it said it was reschedule for the next day and again no one showed. Then I get this voicemail from Verizon that DSL is not available at my address even with no one ever stepping foot out here to find out but they walked me through everything on the phone said it should be working even a tech said it should of been working but Then out of no where get told not available but I've been charged for it for two months now and still being billed and the system still tells me it's available for my address as a usable service. So if they now I can't have it here why turn it on send me everything set up appointments twice bill me monthly for it instead of taking it off my account because it's not available here now that's very bad customer service the worst I've ever had and still getting to this day I'm paying for it and still have to pay for my hotspot from virgin mobile because there's no other DSL high speed internet providers at my house unless I pay bright house over 3000 to run a wire to my house from next door. Crazy huh so any ideas let me know cause talking to Verizon does nothing but give you headaches and the run around.

Same problem here too. Just 50 miles from Washington DC. No FIOS DSL is going down hill. Verizon refuses Copper.net access. I had the higher speed DSL for 2 years then last year they said I lived too far. Now we suffer disconnected and extremly slow connections. Even with a new modem Kicker is I keep getting notices offering higher speed DSL free for a year. yeah right If thst is the case why was it taken away last year. Verizon is scrambling and only wante to provide internet service to metropolitian areas suburban and rural are not anyone they want to service well yeah send bills to in exchange for 1/4 service. Glad my cell phone is a trac fone. My ATT USB works well. and I have seen several other USB services that offer enough band width to use the internet but not netflix. Frustration delux. And the lack of help from Verizon makes it that much worst.

The year is 2014 and I live in the U.S. Why can I not get internet service? Verizlon has built adequate barriers around their technical people so you cannot talk with anyone except people that read from a script and adlib. They say they will call back but never do. Why can I not get internet service but they can provide a phone.
I think that you identified the problem. You live in the U.S.. The ITU Development Index ranks the U.S. 31st in access, behind such technology powerhouses as Estonia, Slovenia and Barbados. The U.S. earns an access index of 7.78 while China (4th) has an index of 9.24. This is an index that goes from 1.85 (Myanmar) to 9.46 (Luxembourg). You can improve your chances of having good internet access by moving to Canada, which is 23rd at 8.01
Why can you get a phone, but not internet? Because it's the law that you have to be able to have a phone. Darn regulations, huh?
