Get rid of land line, keep DSL

Is this possible.  I don't want the landline anymore, we rarely use it, and never for long distance. I do want to keep DSL. Doable?

This can be done. You'll be converting the DSL line over to what is basically called a "Dry Loop" DSL line, where you receive DSL but without Dial Tone Service (you'll wind up with a fast busy). It should be a simple matter of telling Billing that you no longer want Telephone service.

Just be aware, due to using Dry Loop, your DSL bill might go up a few dollars in the monthly payment. Also, make it clear to Verizon that you are not asking for a total disconnect. Shutting off Telephone service can simply be done by means of Software, meaning there is no need to send a tech out to do any work on the copper and there is no need for you to do anything after the call. Verizon has been known to take DSL with the Voice service when canceling telephone only. Happened to a friend of mine who no longer has DSL as a result.

That simple if Verizon will allow you to do it. However 'Dry Loop' is not a tariffed service, so like DSL, Verizon has no legal obligation to offer it, and in some markets, Verizon does not offer 'Dry Loop' Service.

So while there is no harm in asking if you can have 'Dry Loop' service, there is no guarantee that it is available in your market. In most markets where 'Dry Loop' is offered, your DSL service is about $5 per month more without a landline.

That $5 is still considerably less than the total montly cost of landline service, which is typically about $20/month with the various fees, taxes etc added on.
