I'm having problems getting my DSL internet activated.

I've been given the run around from Verizon regarding my DSL connection. It was supposed to be activated yesterday, but for unknown reasons it wasn't (They claim to be researching the problem and someone is supposed to call me today, we'll see.)  I called tech support between four and six times last night, I honestly don't remember how many times cause they kept disconnecting me after "trying to get in touch with a something something specialist." When I finally got people to talk to me and once I got a supervisor on the line I was informed that in order for my DSL to get activated they needed to install a special jack in my apartment.  I have three problems with this answer, one, I ordered DSL two weeks ago and this is the first I've heard of needing any special equipment other than a modem. Two, looking on the forums, no one mentions needing a special phone jack for DSL. Three, it sounds like something someone would make up if they think they are dealing with someone who knows nothing about the subject and it will get them off the line.  Honestly, I was near tears last night because of sheer frustration. When I ordered DSL without home phone service I was told it would be ready by March 27th at the latest, then it was March 31st, definitely, now it's "We're not sure, we'll call you, don't call us."

I had DSL with Verizon about two weeks ago, we had home phone service as well. My roomate was told that she could shut off the phone service without interruption of the DSL (which also makes me call crap on the "special jack" statement.) but we wanted to switch the internet into my name.  We were then told that in order to do that we would have to shut the service off and restart it, we had no problem with that, but seeing as how the service start up date has come and gone and we still have no internet and now apparently "need a special jack." I'm seriously looking into other internet providers, even if slower and more expensive cause I'm sick of being patient and understanding and saying "no problem" when I really just want to scream and complain and be told in straight unadulterated english what is going on and why I'm apparently not worth having as a customer, cause right now I'm so completely fed up with the half truths and outright lies that after years of being happy with verizon I'm considering not only cancelling a service that is yet to be started but also telling my friends and family how much Verizon "truly values" their customers, and believe me, when I talk my friends and family listen and then continue spreading the word.

So now, has anyone else heard of this mystical and magical special jack that's required for DSL to function without home phone service?

there is  such a thing called a filter that needs to be put on the phone jack that filters noise and signals from messing up your internet.

so this might be what they ment by saying they need to install a special phone jack. maybe the new jacks have the filters in them.

idk but i hope everything works out for you soon.

It could be that the existing wire in your appartment is not clean enough to provision DSL only. When combined with the phone possibly it has a higher line voltage and worked before. Now that the line is to be provisioned without phone service it may be giving them trouble that did not show before they came out and ran the new line test. So a new jack dedecated for your DSL line may require a new wire be run to your appartment. Also the account for internet only used to require direct billing to a credit card or something else. This was a number of years ago. Most accounts are linked to a phone number, and without a voice number it adds to the confusion.

If you are getting the voice and everything turned on as before, then I am at a loss for words.
