yesterday I tried to connect and it would not, so I plug into my work computer, and still can't get any connection. I called Verizon tech support, and it says they are having a problem with "email".. but i cannot connect at all.
If possible, I would like to know when the internet will be back up.

check the dsl light on your modem, if its blinking try to on/off ur modem, plug and unplug. if still dsl still blink, call tech support. But if the dsl light is solid, try to access your modem http://192.168.1.1 check for your username and password. Also check http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm if seen disable button, click disable button, but if enable leave the enable button.Some other more steps. My verizon techsupport agent sorta installed a verizon software which i use everytime i got problem with connection.

Should never have to go into the the modme/router config other than your initial setup to set up security etc. Should be seamless connection. Either problem with Verizon's DSL service, or (MOST LIKELY-->) the garbage Westell 7500 modems.
