Lose DSL service for days at a time---Westell 6100 modem

Several times this calendar year I have lost DSL service for 4-7 days using a Westell 6100 modem.  I am awaiting a tech even thought it mysteriously fixed itself. Yes the DSL light was blinking when I could not get service.

I found a posting on CNET re. this Verizon problem at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7583_102-0.html?threadID=311872&tag=forum-w;forums06.   I went to the supposed software update for Westell 6100 as well as Westell Versalink 327 and downloaded the appropriate modem software upgrade.

When I attempted to run it ....it told me that I do not have TCP/IP installed on my computer....Nice try ....hope someday it gets fixed.   I cannot spend hours on the phone talking to support and waiting at home for techs.

Ok.

#1 Since I have no idea of how old or how new your modem is, I have to ask you a question.

Is it the while and blue firware or the red and black firmware?

If you have no idea of what I mean, read only the FAQ that I am pointing you to (Please Do Not  Attempt At This Time, to follow/do what this FAQ tells you to do).

#2 Do you have any other router (Linksys for example) besides the Westell 6100 modem combo?

#3 What software firewall is on your computer?
