New Service - Order Modem or Modem/Router Combo?

Hello, I am going to be setting up new DSL service with Verizon and I noticed I have an option to just request a modem or a modem/router combo from Verizon.  Based on other user's experiences, which solution is easier to set up and manage?

I also need to have the DSL access set up on a wireless network in my house, just in case that impacts the answer.  If I do select the modem/router combo, do I choose between the Actiontec GT704WG and the Westell VersaLink 327W or does Verizon choose for me?

Thank you, in advance, for any help and suggestions!

I don't believe Verizon offers just a modem anylonger. I belive you are going to get a router with 4 ports. The choice is whether or not it also has Wi-Fi  (802.11b/g support).

As you said that you want wi-fi at your place, i suggest you go for a modem-router combo

The most widely used modem-router combo provided by verizon are the Westell 7500 or Westell 327 W Versalink. Both of them are good modem-routers, though there have been some known issues with the Westell 7500.

The Actiontec 704 WG modem you mentioned is hardly sent out anymore to customers.

I suggest you go for the Westell 327 W Versalink modem-router combo

Before your service ready date actually arrives, ensure that you call verizon technical support on 1800 567 6789 and ask them to check in 'Focisnet' that what modem is being actually being shipped out to you. There have been instances where a normal modem has been shipped out to customers and the customer had actually asked for a modem-router combo.

In case you call verizon after the equipment delivery and order a new modem-router combo, you might even be asked to pay an extra almost $40.
