Many internal Wifi boards specifically the Broadcom Mini PCI 802.11 b/g has a property called 'Power Save Mode'.
With 'Power Save Mode' switched to HIGH PERFORMANCE I can get correct speeds on my HSI (pings less than 60 ms), otherwise the other options are DISABLED & MAX POWER SAVINGS which WILL NOT give optimized speeds (pings greater than 100 ms).
I hope this helps to all those experiencing less than optimal performance on their High Speed Internet.

I would also like to note that some wireless adapters DO NOT have the 'Power Save Mode' built-in; in which case, this functionality is controlled via Windows.
- If one were to go into the properties of your Wireless Network Adapter there should be a tab called 'Power Management'.
- Deselect the box 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.'
