Make sure all devices that are connected to the phone line expect (meaning - not including) for the DSL modem have a filter.

If I am reading your post correctly...

Make sure that the phone has a filter and the modem DOES NOT have a filter.

This is classic of something 'eating' DSL signals.  For example, you could have something (that you do not even know about) eating DSL signals.  But not enough to hinder DSL.  Add a phone with filter 'eats' enough to hurt DSL.  Possible.

Also possible is something strange such as a salt growth now touching a telephone block; causing conductivity problems only when a phone is also connected.

Your problem is why I always run a dedicates wire from a DSL modem direct to the NID.  And put the filter for all other wires also right there where the rest of the house connects to the NID.  To avoid failures such as yours, I put the filter far from each phone and as close to the NID as possible (without being outside).

There is almost always something electrical on your wires that you don't know about.   Best is to filter everything else simultaneously with the one filter located so that all but the DSL wires are also 'after' the filter.  Then you don't have to find the weird problem such as a salt deposit that has grown to connect to one wire of a phone line.

This you do know.  Failure is most likely inside your house.  If you don't solve it, expect to pay $hundred to have a professional fix it.   Better is to reinstall the filter as described.  Even if it does not solve the problem, you spend less money having that expensive tech chase all possibilities.

are you saying filter  it BEFORE its split between the modem and the phone??

i might be up for that... im going to rewire it all tomorrow anyway.

i have read a lot of issues that is reverse of mind.. the phone doesnt work..etc.

at this point i figured it had to be some issue on my side.

i have a DIRECT line from the box outside to the jack and straight to the modem and phone.
