I currently use VZ DSL (3.0 Mbps plan).
I get good speed. I checked and my line also qualifies for FiOS. However, it seems to me that my line does not qualify for the turbo plan.
The VZ online tools are unhelpful! I logged into my account in home.verizon.net to check my account status. My 1 yr contract is up and I'm back on the month to month plan. I see this as a opportunity to upgrade. When I enter my phone number to check availability, I am told that my Verizon number is not recognized. Only a search using my address would work.
Anyway, my main question is... I'd like to know if I would qualify for the promos that they are advertising.. Maybe it's wishful thinking since I'm not a new customer.
Ideas? Lack of time and work prevents me from making a call to VZ during the work week. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

The 7.1 mbit/sec plan requires you be located fairly close to the Central Office. Lost of customers discover when the upgrade from the 1mbit/sec plan, they don't see much improvement, because it turns out the copper pair from the Central Office won't support the full speed. The speed you get with DSL is the lesser of either the Verizon Provisioned speed, or the highest speed the modem/router can negotiate with the Central Office equipment. You can tell what that speed is by checking the transceiver stats on the modem/router.
As far as I know, all of the offers for FiOS services are open to anyone who does not have FiOS service today. When I switched from DSL to FiOS, they had some offers just for existing DSL customers that were even more attractive.
Verizon wants FiOS customers enough that they will waive the early termination fees for DSL customers who upgrade to FiOS.
There is one other advantage to FiOS service. No matter where you are located, or what the weather is outside, you are going to get the promised speed.
