Slow DSL I was beginning to think I was the only one.

Your Speed Result: Los Angles
Download Speed: 824 kbps (103 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 651 kbps (81.4 KB/sec transfer rate)\
I also found it interesting that when help is offered it’s “Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.”
Are we really to believe the majority of our speed issues are individual issues, not a companywide issues?

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Remove that line. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?

#3 If you don't know how to get that info:

a) What is the brand and model of your modem?

b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

Reply Part 1A

Greetings.

Thank you for taking a look.

DSL Service for years  has been "good" until the last month or so. Good being  2.50 download and .65 upload. These speeds meet my needs and expectations. For the last few days, speed has been good at  2.50 dowload. This morning download speed was .85 again.

Normal trouble shooting that has worked is to unplug the power supply to the dsl modem, router -switch, and switch, turn off the computer, wait 2 to 30 minutes, plug th power supply back to the modem, router -switch, and switch, turn on the computer, and service is restored. For the last month, that has not workred. I also tried just using the dsl modem directly. No internet conection at all. but... the speed was back to normal when I puged all the equiptment back togeather. Today, May 27, I tried the exact same modem that belonged to a neihbor who has upgraded to fios. The speed is back to 2.50 download.  I will post back later when I swith them back and check for speed.
