Slow internet during peek hours

Hello,

New to the forum but have been browsing it for a while. For the past 2 weeks I am having issues with my DSL download speed during what seems to be peek hours (from 3pm till midnight). I am on the 3.1-7mbps plan and during morning hours the speedtest.net is showing correct over 6.5 mbps download speed (and the internet in general is fast) but during peek hours it drops between 1-1.3mbps download and all sites seems to be sluggish. I have a tech coming in tomorrow but just by browsing through a couple of pages of this forum, I see this is a rather common occurrence . I am in Rahway, NJ area. My transceiver stats look good and do not fluctuate during day/night. How do I get a hold of higher level technician at Verizon that can actually change the data circuit on their end as it seems to me that their switches may get overloaded during peek hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh I forgot, I have a Westell 7500 modem. Anyway, whatever is happening, it seems to be like a timed occurrence happening at the exactly same daily basis and the speeds drop to the exact same levels.

Update on my situation, a Verizon line tech came in yesterday and confirmed that everything looks good on my end. And I am still getting normal speed during mornings (download speed above 6.5mbps) but after noon it can drop to 1-1.5mbps and be like that until midnight. Again, it seems that something is going on on Verizon end, overloaded switches during prime time or they are actually throttling the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can get you to someone who can help. That looks to be a good line from here, but if you could please supply a Traceroute to a popular website from your computer, and a DSLReports Line Quality test to us to verify where the problem seems to be, first.

DSLReports Line Quality Testing (run while problem is happening): https://secure.dslreports.com/pingtest

If you need help running a traceroute, please don't hesitate to ask. We just need to know your operating system.

-------------------------

All 3 tests were done when the verizon speed test was showing about 1.6mbps download speed at around 11:10PM EST. And again, this seems to be like a timed event. In the morning until 10:30am everything is working well above 6 mbps download but as the day progresses the speed decreases.

I am having the same issue, is there any resolution for this?      My support call has been opened for about two months and still hasn't been resolved by Verizon Support so I am looking for answers in the forums.    I think mine is network congestion as the infrastructure in my area cannot handle the load.

The strange bit is here, those are some rather clean traces and fast ping graphs. There's some spikes here in the traceroute you ran outbound, but there isn't packet loss or high latency showing up in this case. Almost looks as if there isn't congestion to begin with circuit-wise. What I do notice however is the increase in round trip time. NDT measures this while transfers are in session, and during congested times this can be higher.

Considering the NDT test was ran on-network, the receive window for a Windows 7 machine should be lower (basically where it is), due to lesser latency and a smaller window only being needed to achieve the data rate. If you test off-peak hours, that should prove to be higher. Windows 7 Dynamically adjusts this based on latency and based on the connection capacity to deliver data reliably.

I'd like to check one final thing though on your computer before getting you to Verizon. Hope you'll bear with me here. Go to Start > use the Search box to find the program called "cmd.exe" and open it. In the Command Prompt, run the following command for me:

netsh int tcp show global

When you press Enter, it should give you some readout. Right click on the Window and choose "Mark." From here, highlight the readout of the command, and then press Enter on your keyboard to copy the results. Paste the results into this window for us. If those check out, we'll look at things from Verizon's end.

Some food for thought from a 5Mbps line on Verizon (I do throttle uploads due to high bandwidth usage here, and test was ran while two PCs were running online games):

Thank you for responses. Here is the requested readout:

Querying active state...

TCP Global Parameters
----------------------------------------------
Receive-Side Scaling State          : enabled
Chimney Offload State               : automatic
NetDMA State                        : enabled
Direct Cache Acess (DCA)            : disabled
Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level    : normal
Add-On Congestion Control Provider  : none
ECN Capability                      : disabled
RFC 1323 Timestamps                 : disabled

Also, I have fired up my older Windows XP laptop and wired it directly to the modem and all that statistics during same hours are very similar and its also showing a drastic drop in speed during afternoon/night hours (From 6.5 mbps to 1.5 mbps).
