Verizon DSL Web Hosting CGI Scripts Do Not Work

I recently moved all my web sites from AOL to Verizon because AOL will discontinue all customer web hosting on October 31, 2008.

I am having problems getting the Verizon web Hosting CGI scripts to work on my Verizon web sites.  No matter how exactly I follow the Verizon CGI script  code, the CGI scripts do not work and I receive the following error messages:  counter2: Idap_search failed--no such object

Does anyone out there know if the Verizon Web hosting CGI scripts actually work?

Today, someone at Verizon TURN ON my CGI scripts and now I can use the WAPP CGI scripts like everyone else.

I guess it pays to complain.

To answer your question, it seems the scripts work.

I used the CGI Hit Counter in the default mode using the code

<img src="http://wapp.verizon.net/scripts/counter2.exe?df=counter">

Which are the directions that I found after clicking on Site builder, going to CGI Scripts and then to Using CGI Hit Counter

and it worked.

#1 What script or scripts are you talking about?

#2 Did you make any adjustments, like any of the Counter Options?

#3 If you are using their editor, did you click on the publish button?

Thank you for your reply.

Believe it or not, I telephoned Verizon Tech Support a few days ago & was told: "we don't have the expertise to answer your question."

I am using the same CGI script code that you are but I keep getting an error message.

Furthermore, I have tried the guestbook CGI script and that doesn't work either but the error message is different than the one I receive for the counter script.

I have also tried the formmail CGI script and that works partially.  I can see the "Thank You" page that I have set up but I never receive the e-mail that the script is supposed to send to me.

I have a question for you.  Are the CGI Scripts resident in a folder in your web directory?  The reason I ask is that I can't find a "WAPP" folder in any of my "mysite.verizon.net" folders that I set up.

Ok, I think I see why...

Both of those pages are using the same CGI script controls.

You are directions are, to use the Counter Option(s).

For one site, use the the following code...

<img src="http://wapp.verizon.net/scripts/counter2.exe?display=counter & df=1.txt ">

and for the second site, use this code..

<img src="http://wapp.verizon.net/scripts/counter2.exe?display=counter & df=2.txt">

Try that and tell me what happens. I suspect it will work...

If not, also add two line breaks between the AOL image and the (td align="center") code..

**

Note: Sad to say, this board said to me when trying to preview the message..

"Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied."

**

So, part of this post that I am posting is not the correct HTML code (It is not the **bleep** key and the 9 key at the same time on one end td align="center" and then the shift key and the 0 (zero) key of the other end of the line that says td align="center").

I'll try it and see if it works but the truth is, I actually had only one site with the Verizon CGI script and I still got the stupid error message.

I only added the script to the second site today.

I really believe that the WAPP Directory is not working for my web sites.

I can't even find a WAPP Directory on any of my six web site FTP directories.

Good, job. 🙂

As promised, I removed the HTML file (or files that I copied over and, I tried to "play" with to help you).

I am having the same trouble, CGI scripts won't work on my Verizon FTP space.  Apparently "Kilowatt" contacted someone in Veriaon to allow CGI to work on his (her) site.  I have just talked with my 15th person at Verison who could not help me.  Whom do I call to get the CGI script to work?

The counter script just stopped working a few days ago.

The form mail and guestbook scripts only work intermittently .

No one at Verizon gaves a **bleep** about this.

I have written a long formal letter to Verizon Tech Support about this issue and never received a reply.

Verizon just doen't give a **bleep** about CGI scripts and hosting web sites.

Please see letter below:

Verizon - Maryland
1 E Pratt Street
Baltimore, MD 21202

November 1, 2008

Dear Sir or Madam:

Re:  Ticket #209947599, Verizon DSL Account #RS01239510

I am a web master and I'm currently using Verizon High Speed Internet Web Hosting Services to host my web sites.

I moved my sites to Verizon because AOL discontinued all customer web hosting effective October 31, 2008.

There is a problem with the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts available to Verizon Web Hosting customers.

Neither the Guestbook.exe Script nor the Form2mail Script functions correctly.

I am more concerned with having the Form2mail Script work properly because I use this script to weed out the spammers who often leave obscene or hateful messages on my military retiree fraternal organization web site.

I tested the Form2mail script on October 22, 2008 and TWO DAYS LATER, October 24, I finally received a web2mail message with the information I completed on the Form2mail form (please see enclosure 1).

Since October 24, I have not received one single web2mail message from the Verizon server although I have filled out my guestbook addguests form at least 30 times.  I should have received 30 web2mail messages---I HAVE NOT.

I have contacted at least six technical support departments at Verizon about this problem but none of them could help me.  The Superpages, Domain Name & Web Hosting Department wouldn't help me because I don't have a Verizon-provided domain name.

All the other high-speed Internet technical support departments that I contacted declined to help me for one reason or another.  Most technical support personnel didn't even understand what I was talking about!!

The simple truth of the matter is that no one that I contacted at Verizon knew who is responsible for the CGI scripts or, for that matter, who is responsible for the servers that the CGI script WAPP Directory resides on.

I would appreciate it if this letter could be sent to the programmers responsible for the CGI scripts residing on the Verizon Web Hosting Servers WAPP Directory or the department responsible for maintaining the Verizon Web Hosting servers.

The URL of my military retiree fraternal organization website is:

http://mysite.verizon.net/res110kgw/

The URL should really be:  (http://mysite.verizon.net/abcccassociation/index.htm) but that URL is no good because the Verizon-provided CGI script hit counter program will not work  using that URL.

Any help you can provide me to resolve the various problems mentioned in this letter would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

SIGNED

Most technical support personnel didn't even understand what I was talking about!!

My own experience was that I kept getting connected to people that apparently were in India, who knew a lot about DSL connections and getting
them to work.  So, they kept asking me about my operating system, asking for my modem model, etc, etc, and simply would not transfer
my call or my chat message to someone who could help.  They could not understand that the problem was with Verizon, and not my computer.
