Seems like I can't get to Web locations beyond the address for my home page.
Are the internal name servers working, or has connectivity between the Verizon name server and the higher nodes been lost?
A great way to check this is to use the nslookup command on Windows via a command prompt, or the dig command via a Terminal on Mac or *nix systems. With Windows, a bad namesever lookup should give you a server failed message. On dig, you may get something similar but you will see the tool give an empty response in many cases.
An easier way is to try other DNS servers from just one device. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 tend to be great choices. There is also OpenDNS and Level3 DNS at 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6 .
