i had a couple of people tell me their PS3 is freezing up due to verizon internet.
they can play games online with no problem, but when they start using the browser it freezes the entire unit.
to me this sounds like a PS3 problem
any body out there with similar problems or ideas ?

It's likely a PS3 problem, but if they take it to a friends house and it plays fine there, but when they come home it freezes up constantly, then it's possible that it's the Verizon Routers.
Verizon Routers have puny NAT tables, that get overwhelmed with heavy game use and bittorrent traffic.
If he can bridge his router and then use a 2ndary router behind it instead to manage the Local Area Network - then that
may fix their problems.

If I was a betting man, I'd say it's not related to the FiOS but if he is adamant that it is, he can test it real easily by taking it to a friends house.
those router NAT tables are infamous, you can google it and see all kindsa wierd side effects. I haven't had any
problem with mine except when I torrent. But other than that, people have reported similiar problems so it's worth
experimenting with if he's dead set that it's the VZ router.

*sorry I meant DSL.
And that is also assuming that his noise margins and line readings are "good"
