My 6100 modem and router lost all connection 2 days ago. Cust. service call that lasted 3 hours with no help except saying modem is bad. Someone help me get it going by redoing the router. One thing I don't understand that is different is the ethernet cable coming from the modem goes to one of the numbered ports on the router instead of the internet port. It works fine but has anyone else heard of this connection?

#1 Check what the Default Gatewaty on your computer is.

As how to do that, will vary per OS and Version - so I will give to you an example of how to do that.

If on Windows XP..

a) Go to Start -> Run.

b) Type in cmd and press enter.

c) In the new window, called the command prompt, type in ipconfig /all and press enter.

d) Be sure to view the full output, because your computer might have more than one NIC.

#2 Try to go to Default Gateway with your web browser and log-in.

#3 I know that you are in a router, but I don't know which one.

#4 Which one are you inside of

a) The Westell

OR

b) the other router

?

#5 If the other router, what is the brand and model of the other router?

It's a Linksys wrt54g. I found out it is setup as a wireless access point. I don't know why the internet port on the linksys will not let me connect anymore , but this is working.
