I am leaning towards leaving verizon.
Moved to south river nj in nov 2013, the speed hasn't been past 1mbps down or 768 mbps up. Connection randomly drops, takes a few hours to reconnect even after rebooting.
Last week connection totally dies, 2 days later tech comes to resplice the line. Seemed to be good for a few hours, now I'm not getting past .5 mbps down or .4 mbps up. Ping ranges from 60 ms to past 200.
I have been told I'm about 2.5 miles from CO. Is my speed normal for the distance? Customer support says my plan is 1.5 / 768. Everytime they do a test it disconnects and I don't have an internet connection for hours. Usually get pppoe disconnected.
I previously had Verizon in Brooklyn NY, never had a problem, I was at 3mbps download. Or close, never was disconnected, never had problems with streaming etc.

at  is the standard  Verizon  speed and  connection.  Look at   the posts   even  when  you are paying for high  speed   (  read  the  description "speeds  up to"     for  all  of their  speeds  What that translates  is   you  only  get   the slower speed   during  times  of high usage ,  which  translates to   when  everyone  is downloading from  netflix  to aavoid the horrid  TV  offerings.

Your slow speed and disconnects do not sound standard to me. Even if you were set to .5 downloads you should not be loosing connection.

To all who need help:


Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?

#3 If you don't know how to get that info:

a) What is the brand and model of your modem?

b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
