There are several ways to get an idea. The easiest is probably to look at your bill, that will tell you what you are paying for.

What you really have may be another story...

$19-$25 and your probably have bought 768 Kbps-1mb/128kb service

$29-$35 and you probably have bought 3mb/768kb service

>$39 and you probably have bought 7.1mb/768kb  service

To see what speed you are actually getting, you need to log into the modem/router (http://192.168.1.1)  as the administrator, and look at the transceiver stats, which will tell you what the actual uplink/downlink speeds are. Normally they are slightly higher than speed you bought. For example 3mb/768 should show up as about 3300kb down, and about 880kb up IIRC.

You can also run one of the many speed tests, but that may not very accurately reflect speed of the link between your computer and Central Office. It reflects the lowest speed at any point between you and the server providing the test.

Your actual speed will be the lower of either the highest speed the modem could successfully negotiate with the Central Office, or the provisioned speed (The speed you are paying for).

However your actual speed is very sensitive to the quality of the copper pair you have from the central office, the distance from the Central Office, and any other 'loads' on your telephone service. I.e.. Just because you are paying for 3mb/768kb service is no guarantee you actually get it. Your Mileage May Vary.....
