Did Verizon supply you with a Gateway or router, rather than just a modem? Is this a desktop you're trying to set up to use Wi-Fi? Do you have other Wireless devices at home already set up and working on your Wi-Fi network? Having Windows 8, or for that matter any operating system with Wi-Fi support built-in doesn't automatically give you Wi-Fi. You have to have the hardware in place to support it.

Are you perhaps referring to the Verizon Wi-Fi software used to locate and connect to Verizon "Hotspots"? Unless you provide details, it is unlikely that your issue can be addressed effectively.
If the answer to the above question is "yes," then the software will not install on a Win 8 laptop. In fact it's often difficult to get a proper install on XP, Win7, etc. Recently when I tried to re-install on a newly-formatted XP laptop, it took quite some time before the system allowed a full install. I'd say the chances with Win8 are slim to none.
