Setting Up The Devices

I'm just curious as to how everyone is setting up the various devices on their HM&C systems.

  1. Using the browser based setup scripts (the "Wait 4 Minutes while I locate the new device" script).
  2. Pushing the button on the Gateway method.

The first method seems to work fine the first few times it's used, perhaps with the base devices. But I have had devices which are never found using this method, even after trying numerous times.

The second method is one a Verizon Tech had me do and it seems to never fail. 

  • Follow the basic directions for setting up the device.
  • Place the device next to the Gateway.
  • Press and hold the front button on the Gateway for a 10 count.
  • The button will flash for a few seconds.
  • When the light stops flashing, wait a few seconds.
  • Press and release the button again quickly.
  • If the device is a light module or door sensor, double-click its button.
  • The Gateway light should stop flashing.
  • The new device should now show in your device list.

I wish Verizon would fully document this method for the consumers to use. It would save a lot of calls to tech support.
