We moved into a new place where our landlord has FiOS he will be sharing with us. However, since the connection is in the basement, the wifi in our apartment on the top floor is not great. Our apartment has a cat5 wall socket connected to the main Landlord says the previous tenant just plugged another router into that and made their own wifi network.
We have a lInksys WRT160N V2 that I tried plugging in but it doesn't "see" the internet connection. I've googled a bunch but all the info I've found seems to be about connecting the second router directly to the main modem. Is plugging the second router into the cat5 the same? Do we need to be able to access the landlord's router to change settings to make this work?
