Home phone service is OUTSIDE house?

Anyone else have this?  The guy came to hook up our cable and left.  After he left I started wondering where I could plug my phone in to make calls.  I looked on the cable box thinking I had VOIP... nope.  I made a call and was told they only hook up the phone service outside.  What?  I would have to go outside to the side of the house, plug the phone in to the box they installed on the side of the house and talk outside.  Anyone else have this craziness?  I was told they don't install the service inside the house.

In most states, unless you have specifically ordered, and agreed to pay for it, inside wiring isn't part of basic telephone service. The telephone company needs to deliver service to a connection block that may be on the exterior of the house, and unless you order, and agree to pay for inside wiring service, you don't get it. Everything beyond the connection block is the customers responsibility unless they have ordered and agreed to pay for work beyond the connection block. It is your responsibiliby to connect the inside wiring to the connection block.

This is for the most part, correct. If this is a new install however, the tech should make sure you have dial tone inside your house...after that, we would charge to do any type of inside wiring.

Pretty much just like your power company in a sense, they provide you electricity but won't come out and fix a broken power line or outlet in your house.
