Callback Phone Number

Years ago there used to ba a local number you could call to check if you were receiving incomong calls. You'd dial it, let it ring, then hang up. A few seconds later your phone would ring. That meant the phone line was working properly. I forgot what that number was or if they even have that service any more. Can anyone tell me?

Depends where you are located as to what the local number might be. Here in PA there used to be some exchanges where you would dial that exchange + last 4 digits of your phone # and it would ring you back. Also I remember people used to sometimes call the operator and ask them to do a test call.

These days as most people have cell phones the easiest thing to do is call your landline from there.
