I have a 62 year old copper wire landline.
Five years ago, I received a letter about the migration from copper to fiber. When the technician arrived, he had never seen the telephone equipment in the closet, so he contacted his supervisior for guidance. The supervisor could not assist him, so I told the tecnician to forget about the upgrade.
Coincidentally, the next week, I read a NY Times article about pending lawsuits seeking damages for fraud related to this migration situation.
I recently received another letter about the upgrade. I immediately asked to speak with a manager to prevent reoccurence of my prior experience. I have been waiting 2 days for a manager to call.
I was given a deadline of November 18 to "ensure continued phone sevice."
