International Calls

I was surprised that we could not make an overseas call from our cell phone while we can from the house and of course have done for many years. I am told I need a global phone to call internationally. Once I get a global phone are there any access charges? I have been told it is easier and cheaper to use our current phones and a phone card.

You certainly do NOT need a global phone. YOu do need to have International calling enabled from your cell phone. The per minute charges are quite high, so it is possible to run up a huge bill in a hurry (and if the phone is stolen, the carrier often gets to eat thc costs).

So the default from just about all cell phone providers is no International Calling unless you specifically ask for it to be permitted.

If you want to make International calls from you cell phone, you just have to call your provider, and ask that it be enabled.
