My friend has an issue with his phone line (line is constantly ringing busy when calling it); However, his DSL works without any problems. When trying to troubleshoot, he discovered that he doesn't even have an outside NID box. The wire runs down from the pole, through conduit (going through the foundation) and then wired under his first floor bathroom plumbing.
My question is, will Verizon come out and install a NID for free, or is there a charge for this? I've never seen a house without a NID, and my house is older than dirt (was built in 1900) and it even has a NID box.
