No "New Message Alerts" Coming From Voicemail System

Verizon changed something and now our voicemail is broke. Whenever anyone leaves a message, the digital display of our home phone says "MISSED CALL" but doesn't say "NEW MESSAGE(S)". We used to get "NEW MESSAGE" alerts just fine, and now we're not. Any ideas why?

 

Also, Verizon's on-line Troubleshooting sucks hairy moose scrotum and their telephone support is non-existent and you end up on hold for **bleep** ever (just like what you see in the Comcast commercials trashing Verizon) and listening to that excruciating on-hold music
