When I attempt to access my landline voicemail, I am told to enter my temporary password.  I have no idea what they are referring to.  I have tried to have an automated chat with Verizon and have gotten referred all over the website but have gotten nowhere! I am getting very frustrated, can anyone help?

I googled voicemail pin. There is an option listed in Google search with details on that process. The pin may be the last four digits of your phone number if the system did a reset.
