We are getting calls for someone else who had our phone number before. Since verizon uses recycled numbers they want to charge us $22.00 to change our number for another recycled number. We should not have to pay for this since the problem on their end.  On the white pages.com also has their name under our number.  I feel they should change it at no charge since its not out problem plus it can happen next number they give us. So we are soppose keep verizon $22.00 until it stops.  I called Verizon twice about this issue and nothing was solved. when I asked them to speak to the supervisor they told me NO!

Phone numbers get recycled quite fast these days.  Phone number databases are spread far and wide and are updated quite slow.  There really isn't anything that can be done about, other than dealing with the calls.  A "new" phone number will most likely have the same problem.

If the calls are from bill collectors, tell them they have the wrong number.  The bill collector calls will slow down and stop after a while.  But  you have to tell them it's a wrong number otherwise they keep it in their database.

Good Luck.

We told them numreous times You got the wrong number, but they keep calling back. The lady owned this number is 65+  Its in the www.white pages.com.  Verizon should waive the $22.00 and change the number. We have no problem changing it.

I case it isn't obvious, you're talking to other Verizon customers here.  If you want a response from Verizon, you need to contact them through phone or chat.

Do you get any FAX calls on the line?  15 years ago I got a new number that used to be a FAX machine.  I got FAX calls at all hours of the day and night.  Verizon changed the number without a charge.  Of course, that was 15 years ago...

FAX machines identify themselves with a brief beep every two or so seconds.

Good Luck.

I been talking to Verizon reps. There the one told me I got to pay $22.00 for phone number change. And they won't let me talk to there supervisior. I never heard of anyone denying me to talk to a supervisor.I been on the phone with verizon twice and online once. Online rep called me and transferred to someone else. They told me they do Technical only.   I got nothing but bad service from them.

I had Comcast in Pennsylvania. I had same problem there twice and they changed my number with no problem and free of charge.

Hi 05f150,

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.

Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. The title of your post is the link. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.
