If you remove your long distance carrier, people can still dial out by using an operator or a dial-around number (10-10-XXXX) that some carriers provide. To block long distance you must call and put a block on the line. There are usually one-time charges and monthly charges between $1-$5 for a block, depending on what you actually want to block.
