But my ? here is can't they push the 1.9a out to all the markets before all this legal mumbo jumbo takes place and contract settled or are we(Verizon Customers) going to have to wait until this contract situation is settled before we'll see rollout of 1.9a again?

The simple answer is that they won't out of concern with overloading the phone lines with CSR calls.  That is why they do it in a staged manner to a single DAC (typically 2 VHOs) at a time.  Can you imagine the uproar that would have occurred if they had bricked every QIP2500 in the network instead of only 2 VHOs (as did happen with the initial attempt to roll out 1.9a)?

So what's been happening with IMG 1.9?

I am the product director... so let me see if I can explain.

At the end of last year we shipped 1.9 beta to over 100 customers.  We received a significant amount of valuable feedback from those customers that indicated we were not finished.  We iterated with those customers during the early portion of this year making many of the changes suggested.

In April we upgraded some smaller FiOS TV markets, like Harrisburg, Syracuse and Albany.   These customers had issues configuring a setting called SD Override and some other feedback that we had to implement (some items we deferred to the next release).  Those enhancements (e.g. a wizard that walks less tech savvy viewers through configuring SD Override) and tweaks were designed, developed and tested during May and June.  Then we upgraded Tampa and Pittsburgh....

We usually wait 2-4 weeks between upgrades to spread the support calls out in order to not reduce customer service levels (i.e. increasing wait times).  Most calls are not about technical issues, but just questions about what changed, why it changed and how to use it.

and here were are...

So from my view... we took longer than expected because we listened to customers and acted on their feedback...

At this point we won't be incorporating anymore feedback into IMG 1.9... but getting first tech savvy folks like yourself to provide feedback and then doing a sanity check with a broader set of customers has led to a much better software release... albeit taking a bit longer.

Let's just say VHO 7/8 will be waiting til' at least September. All I can say at this time.

I know it's a disappointment, but we missed our window last week.

As Joe stated, i'm one of the lucky ones that have enjoyed 1.9 since last December - you guys WILL love it.

Thank you, Joe for you insight!  Being a 1.9 Beta Tester and a VZ FiOS customer, I am sure once everyone gets updated, they will see the many improvement that were made, and the care that was taken to only release it after some issues were identified, improved and fixed.  Yes, you did listen to your customers and that is what makes a good firmware release for all !

if VZ went through the effort to remove the "coming soon" banners in the menus, probably means the delay is longer than you think.  Probably means it's not even scheduled any more or at least put on hold.  Bummer

I received the e-mail announcing the upcoming change about a week prior to getting the upgrade on my personal e-mail (non Verizon e-mail) where I get my monthly e-statements.

Thanks for the history Joe and how we ended up here.  Can you give any more details on when NJ will be receiving the update and generally when you now expect the overall rollout to be complete?

You expect Joe to once again promise specific date? If he will do that, the promise will be broken, guaranteed!!! So don't ask him specific date, he does not know it because he almost certainly will not be able to fulfill his promise. Sometime by the end of year 2020 everybody will have (hopefully) IMG 1.9 and ability to hook up external drive... Be hopefull guys!

Here's the bottom line:

I am paying the same amount of money as other subscribers, but yet I am receiving an inferior product due to a lack of availability of IMG 1.9a in my VHO.

Please explain why I am a less valued customer. Please explain why I am paying the same price, but receiving an inferior product.

The only fair way to proceed with this rollout is to give credits for those of us stuck out in the cold. This a) rewards loyalty, b) removes the sting of paying for an inferior product and c) adds an incentive for Verizon to get the rollout moving to bring their bottom line back up.

P.S. The Verizon apologists can just be quiet and not bother replying. I don't care about your nonsensical rationalizations for why I should have to wait years and years for basic features that Verizon chose to cripple. Don't get me wrong, FIOS internet is the best ISP I've ever had. FIOS TV leaves much to be desired. If you're a Verizon fanboy of any size or shape, your opinion is not relevant to me.
