Dont get your hopes up. I live in Philly and saw it for a week at the end of July. The week ended, i still have 1.8 and now my banner is telling me to rent Rango.

If you look around at various forums you will see lots of statements (authoratative? I don't know) that the stop in the distribution of 1.9 in your area had nothing to do with the quality of 1.9 or bugs or anything else in 1.9 itself, but due to some unspecified external issues. I have no clue what those could be, maybe the possible strike by Verizon employees in that area, maybe some kind of training issue, maybe some scheduled hardware upgrade in the VHOs, could be lots of things. But I am pretty sure it wasn't stopped by problems with 1.9 itself. So I am really expecting it to be available around the middle of next week in Texas and Southern California. But you can believe whatever you want to believe.... Smiley Very Happy

I know for sure that 1.9 has been made available to several people in Southern California because they have posted at DSLReports that they have it. That is the normal first step in a VHO, make it available to a few and see how it goes, if everything is ok distribute to all the next week.

We shall see......

Justin, I am sure when you do get the1.9a  you will be very pleased with most of the results. A long time coming, but worth it!

For me, having the multi-hub and the extended recording space was the greatest add.  The guide improvements to wide screen   are great also!

Looks like you are on the way to getting it!

Maybe I haven't browsed enough of this labrynth of a website, but is news such as when to expect upgrades and improvements only available by asking fellow customers on a forum?

Basically yes. And don't believe MOST of what you read..... Smiley Very Happy

Verizon does not publish schedules. I think maybe they tried to do so in the past and got burned, some very vocal customers got all bent out of shape when they missed the date. So they have gone the other way and are not at all specific, they now usually give general timeframes. They still get heavily criticized by some, but this way there are no specific dates to miss.

Verizon typically distributes new IMG levels by DAC, each of which contains several VHOs. So they make the new software available to a few in the DAC and wait a week to see how it goes. If all is ok, they then distribute the new level to all users in the DAC, then wait a week or two to see how that goes, then start with a new DAC, same procedure. Sometimes they send an email, sometimes there is a banner at the top of the Menu on the STB, sometimes they don't say anything. And with 1.9 they did have some issues and discontinued the distribution for a while to implement some fixes into 1.9A, which again got the critics out in force.

1.9A is actively being rolled out. It has been available in a limited area for quite a while, it is now apparently in the process of being rolled out in Texas (yay!) and Southern California this week and next, and after a week or two it will start rolling out in some other DAC. Which one? I have no clue, and most here don't, but of course there are always rumors, some of which might actually be right Smiley Very Happy

Ok, I have the QIP7216 on version 1.8 and just called Verizon to see if I can get on 1.9.  They told me on the phone this is not an option at the moment and then something about the strike.

Can someone please help me get my box to 1.9?  I dont think I am asking that much.  The 150gig hard drive on the QIP 7216 is terrible.  I think I max out at 20hours of HD recording time and with NFL around the corner, that is awful.  I bought a 1TB eSata drive but it wont even recognize it unless I am on 1.9.

So what do I have to do here?  I know there is a strike but can someon from Verizon not just push the new version to my STB and that be that?

Thanks,

~Larry

Yes you are asking that much. Far too much.

Verizon rolls out a new level of the IMG to a DAC at a time, apparently it takes quite a bit of setup and testing for each area and they do it one at a time to control the workload and to keep the inevitable questions to the support folks at a reasonable level. They have rolled it out to a couple, they planned to roll it out this week to another but the strike happened, and I think many of those employees may be doing other jobs right now. If you are in an area where it has been rolled out, you would have automatically gotten it.

My guess is that they will not roll out the new IMG to any more areas until the strike is settled (my view only, based on what I have read here and other forums, not based on any quotes or statements by Verizon. FWIW, my DAC was scheduled to get 1.9A this week, apparently we won't, such is life, I am disappointed but will just have to live with it).

By the way, this Verizon strike is just one more proof about Verizon upper management - all they care about is MONEY, MORE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES, BIGGER FATTER BONUSES ....

Customers, their own emplyees it's all secondary for Verizon top management, only their pocketbooks.
