I too think this is just absurd.  It's been well over a year since I saw this previewed on Engadget.  I signed up with FIOS expecting this upgrade to take a few extra months, but I never could have expected this.  It's a facelift to a cable box operating system, where Verizon owns the whole network and all of the boxes.  How could that possibly take more than a year?  Is there just one person working on this?  Truly unbelieveble.  If I don't have 1.9 by the holidays, I plan to replace my DVR and two other boxes with TIVOs.  Amazon can have my VOD dollars.

I too agree that this is unacceptable. I'm tired of the excuses and I would like some accountability for the long wait to 1.9. It is Verizon's fault plain and simple that the Northeast is still without 1.9, regardless of the reasons. It is also a well documented fact that we have been promised 1.9 for well over a year now. Every other market in the US has 1.9, some for 9+ months now, and all of the advertisements on TV here in New England show the 1.9 menus, and the FIOS help also shows the 1.9 menus.

Starting this billing period I will be disputing my FIOS bill, and every subsequent bill until either my service is shut off or 1.9 is deployed. I believe that at this point it is my responsibility as a consumer to fight for my right to the same features and benefits as everyone else. Verizon's statements have been deceptive in convincing me and others to choose FIOS over competitors, and now with a contract I cannot switch to another provider (Without a cancellation fee) because Verizon did not live up to their obligations.

The northeast doesn't have it?  I'm from New Jersey and New Jersey has it.  That's part of the northeast.  You're referring to New York and Masschusetts, I believe.

In MA and still waiting.

At this rate, it's looking more and more like 2012.

What say you Verizon?  Will the Boston area get img 1.9 before that big ball drops in NYC on 12/31/11?

Twitter Joe is authoritative on this subject.

He has stated elsewhere it will not be before January.

A new date has not been publicly announced,

and probably will not be before the end of the year.

Not happy to deliver that news,

but you asked, and it seemed better to be honest and direct about it.

All your paying customers want is more transparency from Verizon.  Don't lose sight that we pay you and you provide a service.  Now keeping in mind that we pay you, we want to know what is going on with our service good, bad, or indifferent. When we ask a question, we want the most direct and responsible answer.

Your presence here Malcolm_Stanley is a start since you have been much more direct than anyone at Verizon on these forums.

Also, Twitter and or Joe's responses are so much more frustrating, for us paying customers, than a value.  I think the use of Twitter needs to be addressed and a more formal method of online communication, such as here, should be used.

We, the customer, want answers, not riddles, and all we get from Joe and Twitter is riddles.

I hope you take my thoughts and comments here and make progress in customer relations.

Thank you!

nascar,

I agree that Twitter and Facebook are not reliable sources of information.  I don't trust either of those myself and refuse to get involved with those websites.  No offense to anyone but I do think they're garbage and they can be dangerous too when it comes to "social networking".  I wouldn't mind at all if Joe were to communicate and post here instead.  It would make a lot more sense and benefit everybody a lot more.  I'm very Internet literate but there are definitely certain things on the Internet that I avoid for a lot of reasons.

I'm not sure if Joe is telling riddles but I think at the very least, the perception of that is really unfortunate and should be addressed, as you have suggested.  You will have no argument from me whatsover about how the overall communication from Verizon needs more work and that does often seem to be a reason behind a lot of issues customers have which may not really be issues once we understand the context of what's going on.  I definitely agree with malcolm's observation that people will quite commonly take a couple of stray pieces of vague information on the Internet and formulate conclusions based on assumptions while missing important details that are being left out.

It just seems like the answers that have already been given to people's questions and concerns about this have only led to more questions and I just wonder at what point people will accept the reality and move on.  I'm not being critical but it's just an observation from what I have seen here.  I let things go.  It's not very often that I demand certain things because we all have to choose our fights carefully throughout our lives and to me, it depends on how important the matter really is to me.

And I do understand that people want to get the maximum benefit from a service that they're paying a lot of money to continue receiving.  I think we all want that.  It's just that some things I don't dwell on anymore, particularly as I get older.

We'll just have to see what happens now.
