Comcast gave better deal -- Verizon won't match?

Hello,

I'm currently a Verizon Triple Play customer.

A door-to-door Comcast guy came by yesterday and offered me upgraded services (compared to what I currently have) for $50 less per month plus a $300 credit.  I jumped on the deal, but figured I'd give Verizon a chance to meet it as I'm happy with my Verizon service.  I made the call to customer service, but they said they could reduce my bill by about $10 per month instead of the $50.  I even offered to share the Comcast work order with pricing to prove what I was offered.  Didn't make sense.

Comcast is installing in 7 days -- though I'd like to stay with Verizon, it doesn't make sense given the dramatic cost savings.  Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Verizon never price matches its current customers. Its just they way they are.

You are a current Verizon customer so they won't give you what Comcast is giving you which is a special new customer promo price. Once that term ends (either 1 or 2 years) your bill will jump up drastically. Comcast did it to me in the past and when I moved Brighthouse did it to me as well and neither would give me any other offer which is how I ended up with Verizon. My bill jumped an easy $100 after the promo pricing on Comast and Brighthouse.

I pay a little more then I did under the other companies new customer pricing now after having fios for 4 years, but my bill is still way lower as long as I'm under contract with Verizon then it would be out of contract on normal pricing on another company.

Since you dealt with a door to door salesman just make sure your first bill is right. A lot of times they throw offers out and it ends up different.

You could always do what most do. Stick with the cheaper company then when the promo ends, switch back to fios or with someone else.

All of these comapnies are the same. After 6 months you're considered a new customer again.

I remember calling Brighthouse before I switched to fios. They wouldnt give me any kind of new offer so I left. Almost a year later I had a door to door salesmen trying to get me to go back. I was tempted because of the price, but then I remembered just how terrible their service was.

Thanks -- its interesting as I spend $175 per month with Verizon.  I would imagine that they may want to retain me (I can even prove I have the pricing in writing and a signed work order to move to Comcast).  I wasn't asking for Verizon to beat the deal, just meet it.    Well hoping there's a solution as I have a week left.

Have you called Verizon to cancel yet?  Sometimes the cancellation folks will match deals.  You only get to talk to them when you say you want to cancel.  When they ask you why you're canceling, tell them the truth.  They will either do something you like and you can stay with Verizon or they won't, in which case you'll want to go through with the cancellation.

Good Luck.

Hello,

Thank you for the recommendation.  When I called two days ago to ask if they would meet the price, that's who I called - the cancellations department -- they said they could lower my bill by $10/month.  I mentioned I wasn't interested in changing but the cost savings of $50/month plus a $300 credit was too great to pass up.

Any other ideas?
