Contract and promo cancellation fees

Verizon doesn't go far enough to help customers prepare for the economic fall out from COVID19. I called today to see if I could remove non-essential devices and options that I could afford before losing job due to virus. I expected that Verizon would assist with waiving fees and incurred cost from cancelling these as part of promotions or devices and  I was wrong. To free up and extra $40 a month to help my family through difficult times, I was met with contract and promo cancellation fees in excess of $500. When asked to the cost to void my contract that was an excess of $2000.
I understand what you are trying to do to ensure people still have service and waive late fees but that does nothing for the long term. This will not be over in 2 months and you need to help families put money back into bank accounts.
