Non-existent delinquency reported to credit bureaus

I hadn't looked at my credit report in a few years, and see that I have a single random negative blip reported to all three reports - a supposed delinquency that went to collections for an old FIOS account for which such a delinquency never existed.  I have all of the correspondence with Verizon related to the period when the deliquency was reported (which happens to be when the account was closed, and there was in fact a zero balance with no collections).  I disputed immediately with the three agencies, and yet the item is still there.  There is no substance to the claim, and I can't believe they were able to report as such.  I have been jumping through all kinds of hoops and can't find a representative who will put in any effort to help out - heck, I can barely get through to a phone line that doesn't hang up during wait time.

Thanks in advance

Hi cdub,

As this is a peer to peer support forum, you will need to contact Verizon directly for assistance. We have sent you a private message with contact information for a dedicated specialist who is able to help resolve your issue.

follow the guidelines here. Credit reporting agencies have to investigate your dispute which must be either in writing or even online submission at all three bureaus. You can call but it does not protect your rights.

after you file they have 30 days to tell you why it’s correct or if not remove it. If they don’t follow the rules you can get a money award from them in $1500 from each and you have other rights that are written in the FDCPA and file a charge with the FTC

http://www.ftc.gov they may be able to assist you.
