Paperless Billing forced on you when you do autopay

I have just spent a frustrating 4 calls to be removed from paperless billing. It seems that you are forced to have paperless billing if you opt for automated direct debit payments. So I have had to also be removed from autopayment.

Two issues:

Why would a company who benefits from on time automated payments force you to give up paper bills?

Now I have been removed from paperless it seems I will have to wait two months for my bills, so presumably they do not expect me to pay my next bill since I will not get one?

I am sorry Verizon, you benefit from me paying by direct payment, If I send you a check, you have to pay to get it processed. Why force me to go paperless?
