Renewing Service

Message 1 of 7

My 12 mos. Promotional period is up in 5 days.  I tried to call Verizon to see what they will offer but they are only available until 5pm Mon-Fri.  What kind of customer service is that?  Their online chat people can't offer squat.  The online "deal" isn't a deal.  My bill would go down $20 for two months, then be what it is now (-$5) for mos. 3-12, but then it would go $25/mos for the second year.  Uh.... no.  And I don't even know if that includes the multi-room DVR. I currently have the FiOS Triple Play.

I am also calling Direct TV and am leaning that direction.. they have a good deal going that includes the NFL Sunday Ticket.

So freakin' frustrating that I can't call and speak to someone... but maybe that's a sign that it's time to bid ado to FiOS.

In the same boat as you.  Last week when I spoke to customer service to see about renewing for 2 yrs, they DID offer me a $500 Visa card OR the multi-room DVR free for life, even though that was supposed to be for new customers only and I would keep my Ultimate HD plus digital voice plan.    However, my speed pkge was to change from 35/35 to 50/20, which was not good for me.  The price would change from $124.99 to $139.99 - nothing special because that's what online offered me too.  I actually had until August to decide.  So I held off until the new speed plans came out.

So I called again last night and this time the plan changed for the worse for me.  $154.99 with the same Ultimate HD pkg, same Digital Voice, but with 75/35 internet speed, and now it was only a $400 Visa Card, which didn't interest me.  No more free multi room DVR for life.  I"m sorry I waited.  I told the rep that I wanted something better or I'd be thinking of going back to TWC too.  She told me to see what ONLINE pricing offered me, and I did while she was on the phone.  Told her that it now offered for 18 mos only the free Multi-Room DVR and one free HD settop box.  Then the price shoots up to $181 at month 19-24.   Well, I signed up for now because who knows in 18 months what will happen but for now I'm paying $30 for a boost in speed that will probably do not much for me.  I will call again if I see something better. Everyone else seems to make good deals with them except me.

Unfortunatly current customers never get the same new customer offers. I do know the best price you can get is in the upgrade/renewal center. If any bonuses apply they will be offered there as well.

I renewed mine when I saw a $300 visa card offer. My plan only went up $10 more.

It all depends on where you live and how much the other compeition is offering their packages at when it comes to pricing.

If you feel you can get a better deal at Directv and want to chance it with them go for it. I had Directv years ago and you could never pay me to go back to them. Always lost signal or got choppy everytime it rained.

Also dont forget most of the Directv prices are for tv only and after the year deal is up their prices go way high so make sure you find out what their "normal" prices are after the first year as you'll be paying that while in a 2 year deal.

Well, my unhappy overpriced online order last nite was sent to the Verizon blackhole, their "shadow queue".   What's that about?

UPDATE:  Call to a tech and within a few minutes, it was fixed.  I'm good to go!  Will not complain about their customer service.  They have been spot on for me every time, business and residential.

Just talked with verizon about renewing my service and the offer sicked. How can a company not have a good deal for customers that pays them over $335.00 (Cell & Fios) a month like like this? I,m  calling other service companys today  and at the end of my Cell deal I will not go with verizon to renew.

If I understand the argument here, the complaint is that existing customers are unable to take advantage of promotions offered to new customers. Perhaps it's just me, but this situation resembles what logicians refer to as a tautology. I.e., the words are self-explanatory or self-proven. You cannot get a "new customer" promotion if you are not a "new customer," and usually you cannot get "new customer" status by dropping an account for a certain period of time, and then re-establishing the account.

This isn't a "Verizon thing" or a "Comcast thing" or anything similar. It's a time-worn retailing technique that's in use in a wide range of industries. By way of comparison, my local newspaper is constantly offering me special 6 or 12 week rates, provided that I later subscribe at the full price. I would find it very unusual if they later offered me "new subscriber" rates, and continued to do so, throughout the life of the relationship. I suspect others can think of many similar examples.
