Verizon Collection in error but agent will only transfer my calls among different departments
desperatebunny

I was so disappointed of how Verizon treats its loyal customer and how the agent handle issues passively by merely transferring calls among different departments, they just could not offer any help.

I’ve been a happy Verizon Internet customer for years, until one day I saw a Verizon collection of $106 against me on my credit report in March. Not knowing what it is as I set up my Verizon bill on auto pay, I contacted Verizon and found out that is an outstanding bill that was sent to an account associated with an address I moved out since 2018. Someone transferred the account to me when I moved in 2015, then when I moved out in 2018, I transferred the same account to next person moves in. Now after 2 years I am the one who receive a collection? For over two years, I receive no texts, calls, emails or mails looking for this $106. Ever since I moved out in 2018, I never went back and I don’t even know whoever lives now are using Verizon or not. If I was ever notified, I would pay it off without any doubt even it’s not belong to me, my credit score and my reputation is much more valuable than this $106.

That account is not under my ssn, does not associate with my phone number or email address. Because of that, Verizon agent cannot even verify the account and pull up the billing details for me. My credit score dropped from 750 to 650 while I was refinancing my mortgage. God knows how many times I spent trying to resolve this issue. I called and wrote letters, all I requested is to talk to someone to tell me what I could do to prove I am not the person they are looking for, but they keep transferring me to different departments and offer no help. Do you know how many years’ efforts I’ve made to get an excellent credit score? I came to the States all alone with nothing, got my degree and CPA license and worked extremely hard for 7 years to finally buy a home and settle down here to purse my American dream. Now because of this $106 that does not even belong to me, everything is ruined and it will be a shame on my clean credit report for 7 years!

After so many phone calls, I learned from Verizon that someone called to cancel the account. But according to Verizon’s record on file, that someone is clearly not me because the record there is not my phone number or my email address. When I disputed with Experian, the feedback from Verizon is Verizon closed the account while I was told from an agent it’s someone called and closed the account because this person is moving out of the city! There is definitely room of improvements for Verizon to do real investigation and find out the truth. When I contacted Verizon, sometimes they told me the debt is with a collection company that I should dispute with them, after I spent so many time writing letter to request more information, I got no response after months. And Verizon is still the creditor on my credit report. I am so confused and I don’t know whom I should talk to resolve this issue.

I truly believe that a big company like Verizon value their customers so I ask the credit recovery center for help. Little did I know that dealing with Verizon would be a nightmare. Every time I call, I was transferred in circles among recovery center, billing department, financial department then back to recovery center. People are not rude they just refuse to help. Most of the words I heard was oh all I do here is to take payments, you need to talk to someone else, or just say hold on before I explain further and transfer me out. Then I need to start talking about my situation to a new agent all over again, until I got desperate and eventually hang up the phone myself.

I’ve been with Verizon Fios for many years and I still have account with Verizon with my husband. I know I can file complaint with BBB, FCC and CFPB but wondering if anyone here can help me with collection issues? Thank you!

Nope no help here.

this is a forum used by consumers helping consumers.

what ever you do I recommend not making a payment if your account or not. It re-ages the debt and then makes it yours.

you can go to the state’s attorney general’s office or consumer protection board or department of financial security in your state. They may be able to help.

those federal agencies can also assist in certain cases. On your credit report it lists who the creditor is. And collection agencies are not creditors. Verizon is still the creditor. You can get huge money if that wrong trade line hurts your chances to get a home or car etc. three times the amount from Verizon as well as money from the three credit bureaus for not doing their job.
