In May of this year I closed my Verizon acct as there was no Fios in my area and the connection was too slow. When closing my acct I asked if there was a remaining balance as I wanted to pay it right away. I was told there wasn’t. Then a few weeks later I received a bill for $75 or so. I didn’t call right away to resolve it because we were going away on a family vacation but called once we returned. It was literally impossible to connect to a live person. I would call and wait or try to call back option and would not be connected to anyone. With a month of receiving the second letter we received another letter that the account was sent to collections! At this point I called and it took 45 mins of waiting to finally speak to someone. I was explained what this final bill was and paid it. But it was too late my credit score plummeted and Verizon told me there was nothing that could be done as the bill was 30 days past due. Is there anything that can be done at this point?

Hello, I received word today after applying for a home loan that Verizon had reported me with a deliquent payment 14 months ago in Nov 2016 for $59.98. I terminated service about that time and was completely unaware of any late payments. The payment was made in full with a $10 late fee for $69.98 by me in person when I turned in my FIOS equipment. Now my credit has dropped from 802 to 681 and I can not qualify for a best rate home loan. This is the only blemish I have ever had on my credit report and it is going to last for 7 years???? The difference in payments on my home loan will be $260 / month. I never once, received any notification that I was late in any way shape or form. I would appreciate your prompt response to this issue. Thank you

Unfortunately or fortunately if it was indeed paid but not after the delinquency was posted you can under the Fair Debt Reporting Act get treble damages. So say your home costs $300,000.00 you do as you said in your post and it becomes $900,000.00
However you will need to contact the four credit bureaus to dispute the item, show proof and wait to have Verizon either confirm or not respond and they will remove it.
Now if a company other than Verizon acting as agent posted the information to the bureaus it would have to be removed since they cannot report only the original creditor.
Oh your credit/fico score would never drop over a $65 post. There is more to it.

I am in the same boat as many on here. Strangely, I have been an active customer before and after the date of the "collection" and am a current customer. Clearly this is an error and I am not sure how to fix my severely impacted credit.

I’m having the same problem as everyone else. More than $5000. Now I can’t get a car loan or remove it! They can’t even find my account when I call them.
